Labor commits to introduction of social media age limit

The Albanese Labor government has committed to introducing a social media age limit.

The world-leading legislation will mean Australians under the age of 16 will be banned from using social media apps.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called a special cabinet meeting on Friday to ask states and territories to support the proposal.

It will come into effect 12 months after passage of the legislation and will be reviewed following its commencement.
