Hey, just so you know, there's actually a reason the community mostly makes hacks of FireRed. It was found way back in the day (*like around 2009*) that FireRed had less junk data on the ROM and was overall more stable than the other Gen III games. LeafGreen, Sapphire, and Emerald are full of excess data and are less stable due to being modified versions of FireRed or Ruby respectively and GameFreak didn't really bother to clean up the ROMs since there wasn't much reason to. FireRed is technically based on Ruby, but was such a big change that the ROM is basically cleaned and built from scratch, meaning there's very little junk data left on the ROM. Plenty of space to add more content and very low on stability issues when you go around editing key lines of code.

Its becoming apparent that we are moving to a new world where these franchises and entertainment content belong to the fandoms that take care of them rather than the corporations. Fangames and Romhacks are slowly becoming more and more elaborate and professional to match the official stuff.

Just jumping in to mention that Prism is Brown's sequel. Brown is to Prism what Red/Blue is to Gold/Silver.
Same developer (Koolboyman, before Nintendo sent him a C&D), set a few years after Brown, and in Prism you can visit Brown's region, Rijon.
Seemed like an important bit to leave out.

I feel everyone is sleeping on Pokémon Unbound, it has a great original story, high (but doable) difficulty and a huge map to explore; it truly feels like a complete game. Personally it's by far the one I've enjoyed the most and I can't seem to find anything better. It's surprising it never makes it into these lists.

Just a tip for #10 - fan games and rom hacks are different things. Rom hacks are made using the original game, fan games are made using rpgmaker or similar programs

Prism is one of the best pokemon games period, easily the best fan game.
Phoenix Rising is real good but it's very short as of now, it's not a romhack though.

Pokémon Prism is such a sad case, Nintendo told Koolboyman (its creator) to stop developing the game, and if you check the incomplete files and maps in the debug version, you'll find a lot of late-worked trainer sprites and even the other sevii islands, wich were intended to appear in the game as a post game chunk, you were intended to travel to a lot more cities in kanto and johto, and the complete tunod region from Pokémon glazed

Games like Phoenix Rising, that are made in RPGMakerXP with Either Pokémon essentials or PDSK are not rom hacks, they are made from scratch, and are generally much more advanced than rom hacks since there are less limitations, this comes from a person who has made both fangames and rom hacks

I didn't know what I would want from a broadened scope on the channel, but this is something I didn't know I want to see! I've heard of most of these, and there are some honorable mentions (Renegade Platinum, BlazeBlack & Voltwhite) that definitely deserve a follow up of sorts

I would also strongly recommend Pokemon Unbound, I've played a bunch of Pokemon ROM hacks and Unbound is by far my favorite. It's honestly not even close.
