@8:27 Daihatsu is neither Korean & isn't owned by GM, Daihatsu is made in Japan & connected to Toyota motors, GM owns Daewoo which is Korean, it became GM Daewoo motors before just becoming GM Korea!

I think Daihatsu is owned by Toyota. It’s a really old Japanese company famous for kei-cars in Japan.

Over their lifetime, Tesla cars dont need oil changes, fuel, and no brake pad changes (if you drive it gently). That saves you a fair bit of money compared to a similar car of the same price. When people get their cyber trucks, Tesla will eat up the pickup truck market. Other car makers will struggle to catch up. Toyota might give Tesla some competition with the solid state batteries but i dont expect that. I do expect Volkswagon to make a good EV and Tesla to lose some sales.

I love Scotty but in fairness to Tesla, nobody buys them to save money on fuel. That’s a very small bonus.

They buy them for their award winning safety, to save time and eliminate irritation. And for the lack of pollution.

Only taxi drivers drive enough to save thousands of dollars a year in fuel. Tesla Taxi’s are popping up in New York but the value is not with the flagship model S; it’s with the value oriented Model 3. This is expected, you don’t see many Aston Martin taxis either.

Instead, people buy Tesla’s because they are the safest cars on the road, they have the best technology, are easy to drive and they make road trips fun. You arrive at every stop relaxed and refreshed instead of fatigued.

It’s just a bonus that you never have to buy gas, oil, coolant or brake pads.

You never drip gas onto your shoes, never fuss with a credit card or cash at a pump. Don’t have to Interac with a cashier during a pandemic.

The ride is silent, letting you enjoy music, conversation or nothing.

Your car cabin is always the right temperature, you can set it from the app without waiting for an engine to warm up.

The lack of annoyances is what makes these cars so valuable.

The fuel savings are a bonus sure, but it’s more about eliminating pollution into the air, than saving money per se.

My brother has had his Model 3 for three years, and he absolutely loves it. It can go 600km in a charge, which plenty, and I have joined him for several road trips in it.

It’s quiet, safe and fun.

Half the time we have sailboards on the roof and it just feels better to enjoy the outdoors without polluting it.

If you want a pure value proposition, buy a used Toyota Matrix or used Chevy Volt. Both can he had for a fraction of the cost.

Don’t test drive a Tesla thinking about fuel savings.

Test drive one because you want to experience the best all around consumer vehicles ever made. They’re fast, safe, easy, fun and guilt free in every way expect the pocket book.

With ICE, you want the trip to be over.

With luxury electric cars, the trip is part of the charm.

You just cruise away quietly while the Ice car has to start fires in there.

As good as the EV, the VW ID.4 lacks the charging infrastructure. This will translate into significantly higher cost of ownership. Also, the latest Tesla’s have fully autonomous capability. This means, the car can be shared w/others, generating income for Tesla’s owners.

Daihatsu is Toyota.
Daewoo is GM.

And happy new year. 🙂
