Matt: has used the harpoon before, and it has always doubled what it grabs. Also verbally reads the character selection screen which clearly reminds you of this.

Also Matt: Why was it doubled?!

I bet the reason Matt started to think think things only got doubled if picked up alone by the harpoon was because of the effect of the sword which doubled it's OWN damage if picked up alone, and he applied that to the harpoon instead of the sword.

Also, the buffs the Pearl doubles are things such as Spikes and Reflection.

Blockmaster is so good here. Since it helps keep some of that starting shield you get from the perk. Otherwise the shield goes away on the next turn. Also, sadly pearl does not work with strength as it's a separate thing. Buffs are anything above your health bar like thorns, reflection, and things like that. Fortune cookie is the best way to get buffs, then pearl compliments it.

I believe the keys you use to unlock the special character get removed each time for the character that grabs them, increasing the odds of finding the correct key per run on that character. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to follow between characters, so if you are wanting to get a win on each character before focusing on other things like I did it may take a while. Fortunately, I got very lucky and picked the correct key on the first run of the fifth character I was playing. That special character is very fun to play too.

The amount of keys for the Harlequin character reduces each playthrough so there should eventually be only a couple keys to choose from.

I'm a bit shocked, usually I'm very impatient with long animations in games but in this it never even cross my mind to speed it up. I wonder why and I feel like it's a mark of a good game design. It doesn't take obnoxiously long time and the effects are satisfying enough to trick my brain.
