After having this electronic door for 2 years now I'm reporting to potential buyers a couple of design flaws they should consider before buying. First, we bought ours in 2021 so that is the model I'm referring to ( in case they've updated ).  
Secondly, we've been through 3-4 tags (@$30 each) because my cat hates to wear a collar and actively works to brush them off asap! 
Thirdly, the sound made by the electronic door when it activates is too loud and causes my cat to hesitate (and from what I've read many other cats as well). The door will then lock back up before he can enter because he takes too long to decide if he wants to enter or not and I've not found a way to lengthen the time the door stays unlocked.  
Fourthly....because of all these issues we now just use our expensive electronic cat door like the cheap-o $20 flap door, keeping it turned off all the time so he can come and go whenever he wants without any sounds (locking/unlocking).
Very frustrating because there are other cats, raccoons, other varmint roaming around at night and our main concern is KEEPING THEM OUT of our house in case they might follow our cat inside. Happy to say this, so far, has not happened..  
This door is also supposed to work with chipped cats. We did get him chipped (bc of his collar issues!) but since he's already upset about the door we were unable to determine is the chip is activating the door or not. (you have to make your cat pass through the door to activate the chip). It's been a year since we tried, maybe we can try it again....
We have installed an outdoor camera to at least capture what does on during the night and early morning hours.
Very disappointed in the electronic door. Video is not clear on programming. Instruction booklet does not give clear instruction on how to change programming.

Seriously i want to buy this for our 2 cats but every video avoids the timer i have seen and how to keep them in at set times of night while allow them to come in if still outside. And of course end of night to allow the free in and out access again. Also one video i saw the door made a very loud noise as the locks engage and disengage, does this not frighten the cat away from the door. Product has such potential but the advertising is actively turning customers away :(

We struggled big with microchip after mounting. No matter what we do it wont register our microchiped cat. But if we remove it from the Mount then it works for her.

This cat flap has a terrible user interface on its screen. I cannot return it just because it has scratches around the screw holes due to the installation.

Cat Mate Elite...your instructions are lacking.
1) in the video you're programming the door by taking off the battery compartment door. why? there's a "program" button on the control panel, are we NOT supposed to use this button?? Is this the reason I cannot seem to get it OUT of training mode???
2) I got my cat door into training mode, and now it will not go back into locking mode. In the video you only say to repeat the process to reverse out of training mode without showing us HOW exactly...Seems so simple, yet my door is not reversing!
3) There are NO INSTRUCTIONS on how to increase the time permitted for the cat to enter after lock is deactivated by the ID disc. He needs more time, the noise scares him when the door unlocks!! He'll try again, but before he can it locks back up, scaring him with the sound again, so he backs away...repeat, repeat, repeat... :-(
4) I'll be looking for more instructions. I hope someone did a review video!! This should be Cat Mate's job, not the general public!!
