Having just started my private practice, I a re-visiting so many things, and Gloria was one of them. Thank you so much for this video. Very sad that she passed away so young, but the role she played was truly influential. Will definitely check out the book!

There are accounts of Gloria stating that she thought that Perls that the biggest effect on her, however there is some discussion in the research I undertook that this statement may have been influenced by Dr Everett Shostrom the maker of the film and a friend of Perls.

Gloria went on record a stating that the 'tender minded' approach of Rogers would suit a novice to therapy and she did keep in touch with him for 15 years after the film was made which says a lot .

Bless Gloria and her daughter. She shows an authenticity and sweetness in those sessions -sometimes in contrast to the rigid formalising of the -at that time -"experts",

Quick question, I think I saw a different ending of the show, and that is Gloria's immediate choice of who she would work with after the three therapy's. I think she chose Perls, is that correct? And then obviously went Rogers.

Hi. A very good and enjoyable overview. I looked into the Gloria films and case a few years back, and just thought to look at some of the videos again recently. I find Gloria to be the heart and soul of those films, and a charming presence. I was wondering if you know whether there is any truth to the idea that after filming, she ultimately selected Perls as the man that she would most likely continue therapy with? I heard (I believe Ellis stated this) that she thought that he would be the most challenging, and she thought that perhaps that was what she needed (apparently Rogers was most surprised by this). (I also heard a story that Perls, after filming, got her to hold out her hand and used it as an ashtray, much to her dislike.) Unfortunately, I can't recall where it was that I read this information, but I've studied psychology and the source was credible to me at the time. I thought you may know. The same source also described the events you mention above, at the psychotherapy workshop, where Gloria rose to her feet. Best, J.

gloria is a textbook example of a covert narcissist and I bet carl NEVER picked up on that: impulsive behavior; refusal to take responsibility; needs outside acceptance and adoration; can't behave within morals; wants people to accept her for being a liar (which creates her obsession with honesty-- because she has none!); she basically wants respect without acting respectable. Oh and her claiming she feels guilt? Don't forget the number one thing narcissists and other psychopaths like to fake are FEELINGS. It's just convenient to use guilt as an excuse because it makes it looks like she cares enough. If she cared, though, she would change her behavior so as to not feel guilt - and that's just basic psychology ("oh this hurts when I sleep around, so maybe I shouldn't sleep around" is the healthy person's negotiation of guilty feelings -- when they are really felt, not just used as an excuse). Sheesh! ALL the red flags -- it's a parade!!
