Clifton Hicks - Alabama Bound - Banjo Blues

My grandfather, Aaron Mayo Moore (1923-1990), was a migrant farm worker from Alabama. Although I never heard him sing it, I suspect he would've been familiar with this popular song.

I learned "Alabama Bound" from recordings of Henry Thomas, Lead Belly, Papa Charlie Jackson, and two young banjo students who played it for me on guitar. My instrument is an 1888 Thompson & Odell "The Luscomb" banjo tuned ~ gDGBD.

I'm Alabama bound (x2)
If you want me honey gotta leave this town
Before the rooster crows

Don't you be like me (x2)
Drink the sweet black cherry and the elderberry
Let the whiskey be

I don't believe I'll go (x2)
Just to keep my self out of trouble boys
I don't believe I'll go

I'm Alabama bound (x2)
If this train don't stop and pull around
I'm Alabama bound

Don't you leave me here (x2)
Don't you leave me here woman without my
Little old pint of beer

Cliff I came across your video "Rules of Engagement" and allow me to say I am so sorry for what you and your brother's were asked to do. Brother love your music and may the healing hands of God be upon you and your family and I will keep you in my prayers for healing of your memory. Keep the faith

You really do great matching your voice and banjos. It really sounds like a bees nest full of honey when put all together. Stingers and all. 😄👍
