Very nice analysis! Wow one of the very very very rare times I've seen PG miss something is at 29:58, where it sounds like he misses something, pauses for 1/3d of a second and recovers by doing a small lick at that point, then he goes again.

I learned most of this solo by ear when i was a teenager by slowing down the mp3.
You should breakdown Yngwie Alcatrazz live solos.

Paul Gilbert, EVH, and Slash are my top 3 guitarists of all time. SRV might give Slash a run for his money (to me), but Paul is great. Koved the breakdown of his solo!

The height of his shred era was definitely Racer X, not during. I think me became more musical and melodic as he aged, which is a great thing.
