Ok first, I love that people even know what Max and Ruby is. Second, he can say more words than that. If you watched all the episodes you would know that he only says one word per episode. Like sometimes is Cowboy, or Hungry.

or i have another theory that's kinda similar but not
so, i still kinda think his parents got into a crash and he was with them, but it may have not been a fire truck that hit them, it may have just been a normal car. but, the fire truck came to try and save everyone, and going back to why max always says "fire truck", he still could be brain dead, and feel like his safety is a fire truck.

Max only said one word each episode. If I’m not mistaken. My little brother use to watch that show. He only said the word in which the episode was about. But I do think it’s sad how ruby was like 7 and max was 2 children living by themselves.
