Well, the Danes got their flag from attacking Estonian capital in like 14. century. Basically this means that at some point there was the, soon to be, danish flag of white cross on red backround flying over Tallinn. We actually had the crossflag before the first crossflag.
"Record describes a battle in 1208 near Fellin during the Estonia campaign of King Valdemar II. The Danes were all but defeated when a lamb-skin banner depicting a white cross fell from the sky and miraculously led to a Danish victory. In a third account, also by Petrus Olai, [dubious – discuss] in Danmarks Tolv Herligheder ("Twelve Splendours of Denmark"), in splendour number nine, the same story is re-told almost verbatim, with a paragraph inserted correcting the year to 1219.[citation needed] Now, the flag is falling from the sky in the Battle of Lindanise, also known as the Battle of Valdemar (Danish: Volmerslaget), near Lindanise (Tallinn) in Estonia, of 15 June 1219."

I worked as a border guard in South. Saatse "boot" is 24/7/365 watched by both sides. Usually it's traveled by locals and guards know all people in area often even by face. When I started working there nearby in one of the road border check points but was passing nearby road I had initially guard car pulling up to check the 'stranger' quite a few times.

Problems between EE/RU border guards and various issues related with catched illegals etc are solved by duty officers of respective border check points or at higher level (Border Representatives agree on SOP's for particular situations for regional level for EE/RU both).

We are geographically Baltic, culturally mix of Nordic (very close to Finns, who ARE Nordic. Think like Brit/Aussie analogue) and German (who were minority among us for 700y). Basically Estonian will have no culture shock or great problem feeling home at Finland, especially after acquiring the language - which wont take all that long. There are differences too ofc, Finns are far more religious, tad more reserved and conservative but no great shocks, except for attitudes by officials - care, humanity and courtesy are far above ours (likely Soviet legacy, our official would do minimum required and when possible -delegate. You would have to interrogate for your rights etc).

I’m American, but have a passion for learning different cultures. Estonia is sort of a mix between Finnish and Baltic culturally. Both Estonians and Finns were once a part for the same tribe which migrated to Europe from the Ural mountains. These common roots can be seen in their mutual love for Sauna and their languages are mutually intelligible. That being said, they somewhat drifted apart culturally after many years of being ruled by a foreign power (Russia, Germany, Soviets, Polish-Lithuania, Germany etc.). After being freed from the Soviet Union, the Estonians had to find a way to rebuild the culture of their people not only to the way it was before the Soviets took control, but before they were ruled by a nation which wasn’t their own. This is a trend you can see in most former Communist states.

They did this by looking at not only their brother-lost-to-time, Finland, but at their ancient Pagan traditions as well, and also by looking deep into their hearts on what it truly means to be Estonian today. While a majority of Finnish people define as Lutheran (although they may not actively practice), most Estonians choose not to define with a religion, but are still spiritual none-the-less. In this way, they are more Baltic, as many people of the Baltic nations also turned back to their Pagan roots.

Not to say Finland isn’t actively practicing some pagan traditions, but they aren’t as adamant about it either.

The influence left behind by Russia in Estonia is still pertinent as well, as many Estonians speak Russian fluently, and the architecture is also very Soviet in nature as well. There had been a shift away from all things Russian since their independence, but it will always be a part of them which they have to come to terms with.

🇪🇪Estonian actually yes it is nordic.
Why i might be in nordig or why i am sugestimg it is?
The simple trught is that the country is not in the Nordic council due to the corrent countries huge economic situation and they do not want to bring the average down a bit, otherways the countries have stated yes it is but not pfficially.
Second but the actual reason is that like the most Nordic countries we also had our own Vikings.
Third and also a big reason is that we belonged under Sweeden for long time(under Danish rule too for a bit).

Geagraphy now did not do the research and only followed the internet memes where some are jelous of Estonian sucsess.

Estonia is both in the region of Baltic states and thr Nordic area but culturally and economically and technically and language, basicly with any standards (exept the pop count) we are far more Norder Europe than the other 2 baltic countries.

Edit, added just after posting:
A big mistake that have made many angry about the video you reacted wad he said that Estonia gained their indipencence un 1991, and that's wrong, Estonia is over 100 years old and our history over 9000 years old.
It is so sad that the first video about 🇪🇪Estonia wad this..
I have a good list with Estonian intruductions also the nature sites and so on in my account.

Have you heard about the oldest Viking finds of the world that are located in Estonia ? (3 viking ships and a viking king with he's men in traditional Viking bertial site)

In my opinion it’s time to let Estonia be a nice small Nordic country. Estonia very deserves to be a Nordic country, because Estonia has done a lot of work, we have many smart people, we are good at digital things, we have northern lights and we are very similar to Finland and other Nordic countries like: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Greenland. We are not similar to Latvia and Lithuania and the other Eastern Europe countries. It’s time to stop calling Estonia Eastern Europe country and Baltic country and forget all this terrible, rude and mean Soviet times. Let’s just stop this Eastern Europe and Soviet stigma thing and let Estonia turn the new page and let them be a normal small Nordic country next to Sweden and Finland!!! Estonians call themselves the Nordic country and many other people and tourists had also said that Estonia should be a Nordic country, because Estonian people are Finnic people not Balts and we are more similar to Scandinavia. Yes many people had agreed with that Estonia must belong to the Nordic group and seperate from Latvia and Lithuania. They don’t even need these countries, because Estonians communicate more with Finns and other Scandinavian countries. Estonia will be a very good partner for the other Nordic countries. We will do a very great work and we will be very strong!!! ☺️🙏

8:25 The population decline is due to high emigration rates, especially after joining the EU. The same is seen in the other Baltic countries, Lithuania and Latvia, as living conditions were pretty behind Western Europe after 50 years of USSR occupation. The decline has almost flatlined now, as with EU aid and funding living conditions are closer to the West and prices are much lower compared to countries like France or Germany.

Estonia is NOT Nordic. I’m Swedish which is a Nordic country but Estonia is not tho they have lots of connection with Denmark and Sweden since both those countries have ruled over Estonia back in the empire days.
