A lesson this has taught me is that perhaps the greatest thing an elder leader can do is to know when to pass the torch.

Biden probably could’ve clung to the reigns, at least until January. I’m sure he could’ve rationalized it to himself somehow. But he didn’t, and by stepping down he cleared the way for this moment to happen. He first came into the Oval Office supporting Obama, and he ultimately chose to leave supporting Harris. I’m genuinely thankful for him.
