Insane Backhand Power in 3 Steps (Two-Hander)
Generating power on the two-handed backhand in tennis is not always easy.
In this free tennis lesson, Coach Simon Konov of Top Tennis Training will show you how to create insane backhand power in 3 simple steps.
The KEY To Power - to create power on any stroke, you need to build racket head speed. Without RHS, you'll struggle to generate power.
For the two-handers out there, creating power on the backhand means using the major muscle groups to help you accelerate the racket effectively.

How To Create Power on The Two-Handed Backhand

The swing - does your swing allow you to build racket head speed in an effortless way? Or does your swing limit the amount of space you have?
Reaching an ideal power position is key in producing power as you'll have space to build great racket head speed.

Coiling The Body - When preparing for the backhand, do you coil your upper body and store energy in the trunk muscles? Think about throwing a heavy medicine ball, you need to twist the upper body and untwist as you toss the ball. The same motion is paramount on the two-hander.

Body weight Transfer - Do you fall off the shot when you make contact? That's a great way to lose power and stability on your backhand. Try to lean into the ball as you make contact, which will give you more power as you are transferring energy into the ball.

Hey Simon just as an FYI: coach Rick Macci is teaching exactly the same style BH for the exact same reasons. (First hand experience btw) Keeping the racquet head up, just above the wrist will allow the racquet head to “flip” naturally and get under the ball as the forward swing begins.
Solid content as always!!! Thank you!

This was really good information. I like how the weight is transferred from back to front.

I would like to see how to improve my reflexes at the net, as well as technique.

Great video as always! It is so nice to watch a really good player give instructional videos rather than guys that would get destroyed. It is basically you and Karue Sell for credible videos by very good players. Side note, I play at a high level, but after using a 1 hander for 15 years and switching 10 years ago really nasty kick serves above my chest or heavy drives that jump above contact zone still make it hard for me to come over the top. I know footwork is key, but not so easy all the time. Any advice on how to adjust swing or speed up left hand to not feel jammed or tight on high balls? Thanks!

I wonder if YouTube would have a Tennis YouTube competition where we have singles matches with the many YouTube tennis content creators.

Racquet head avoe the grip, right shoulder points to the next, heel to toe weight transfer — lean into the ball.

Hi, so i am what you'd call a counter puncher, especially on my backhand. I like it when the ball 'comes' to me, i would just hit it with open stance or just deflect it back. But then trouble comes when my opponent gives me slice or short (not really an approach) ball. Those two situations made me understand that what i struggle with is the ball with no pace, an empty ball. So, any tips? Thx

Hey Simon, been researching this.all over the net but can’t seem to figure out the concep. But can you go in depth which arm dominates the swing how to train it. My swing still feels unnatural sometimes it’s my non dominant some days it’s my dominant arm

I’m really thinking about switching to a two hand backhand do you really think there is a big time advantage over a one hand?

At the contact point, the power comes from right or left hand?

I’ve tried 1million different ideas to help my 2HBH and the MOST important thing is to pivot around the right foot. Let your left leg come off the ground if you have to but be sure to pivot! (If you’re a righty)

Michael Chang was hitting BH this technique you say it's wrong in order to generate power

I think your turn your left leg too fast ( watch Jdjokovic, he only turns he left left for replacement), then weight transfer from left to right is not complete
