Gladiator II | Movie Review

While not as good as the first, Gladiator II is a thrilling, entertaining entry in the apparent franchise.

Question, how the bleep does Maximus not know Lucious is his son? How the hell does that not cheapen Maximus the character. Like, somehow this movie makes the first one leas good. And that should be the furst hurdle for any sequel.

I’m sorry but i wholeheartedly disagree. This movie was so cliched and by the book, its pacing is awful, the acting is semi-decent but we don’t get enough sequences to develop a relationship with these characters, so it just feels like it has nothing to give back. I love Denzel, but he has very few good moments. Paul Mescal was surprisingly subpar, and Pedro pascal was the only possible ray of sunshine because he made us relate with his eyes. Connie Nielsen was just tragic. Ridley Scott is officially not trying anymore. He’s let his A-list status go to his head and put out crap movies last few years, but this takes the piss

Is it me or does Denzel Washington's character just seem out of place? I mean he just shows up and has no backstory but is able to do anything he wants and can get as close to the emperors as he wants. It's like they were scared of him. Agree or disagree?

It was exactly what the colosseum and the gladiatorial fights were supposed to be, entertaining and it was just that. It worked.

I walked out 40 mins in. I didn’t mind it was basically same recycled store. The problem I had is Denzel Washington is playing a character in 200 A.D. But he still acts like it's the movie Training Day. I love Denzel but he’s typecasted as either a cop or drug dealer character, not a slave owner in 200 A.D. I just couldn’t disbelief. Kept thinking it’s Denzel playing an SNL skit of a modern day brotha in ancient Roman days.

I’d say my problems include a somewhat similar plot to the first, it didn’t have the same emotional level as the first, but for certain characters, like the twin emperors and Denzel Washington, the acting is phenomenal

I’m baffled by the half decent reviews this movie received. It is genuinely a bad movie. From pacing, to the acting to the script (horrendous) this was the worst film of the year for me.
