Mitsubishi, where are your EVs?

Every couple of years over the last decade Mitsubishi has pulled the wraps off an EV concept but we’ve seen donut in terms of production models since the tiny, short-lived i-MiEV in 2011. What’s up with that?

This week the CarsGuide Podcarst panel (Editor Mal Flynn, Senior Journalist Richard Berry, and Deputy Editor James Cleary) looks at what, on the face of it, appears to be Mitsubishi EV Fake News! Has the Japanese brand fallen off the back of the electric vehicle wave?

We’ll also cover ‘This Week in News’ - the breaking news stories you need to know about (Ampol goes Electric, new-gen Mustang, and a ghostly little SUV from Hyundai), and give you a rundown on the fresh metal we’ve been driving this week, in ‘Cars in the Garage.’

Apologies, viewers!
Audio doesn't kick in until 1:17 - the perils of live-streaming!

It's difficult to decipher Mitsubishi strategy in their car segment... If they could get their head together in time, there is still a large fan base for this brand.

The most sencable car drive system at this time is PHEV. And outlander is the best PHEV at the moment.

Australia has been selling Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs since 2014.

Canada only got the PHEV in 2018.

Looking at the new Ampol stations, I can’t help but smile. It seems like you have to reverse park to charge. With the dumbing down of people with driver aids, this is going to force people to reverse park, as all parking should be. It is easier, safer exiting and will hopefully reduce skew parking by a few percent. Maybe some bad drivers should stay away from EVs. 😂

Wouldn’t it be great if they could put the PHEV running gear in the Triton …👍

Possibly, just possibly Mitsubishi is being a little cautious after the debacle from Toyota as Toyota recalls new bZ4X electric vehicle after wheels start falling off, yeah their only all electric car has a world wide recall with a warning in many countries to not drive and a buy back is in place. No car company should be rushed into a new model, as was mentioned in your podcast “there’s not a business out there that doesn’t want to make money “
