Interesting that people never really discuss the massive elephant in the room. 40 years ago it cost £0 in tuition fee to train to be a doctor, just the living and accommodation costs, 20 years ago, it cost between £15k-£21K in tuition fees to train to become a doctor, today it costs between £45k-£63k + another £70k in accommodation and living fees.

Is it any wonder why we English people aren’t training to become doctors when you’re asking 18 years olds to take on up to £133K worth of debt for an incredibly stressful job, with tough hours on a starting wage of £28k a year?

You can’t fix the NHS doctors leaving with more and more immigration. You need to fix the underlying problem that is doctors are getting paid less here than they are in most developed countries. Pay the doctors and nurses the right salary.

Every doctor in training I know has a plan to do their time in NHS before sailing off to greener pastures in Australia/New Zealand or the US. Doctors and nurses are underpaid here. Flooding the NHS with overseas workforce will lighten the load while keeping the wages low, but it won't solve the loss of talent. You must increase wages in line with that of developed nations. Stop wasting billions on failed neoliberal economic experiments and start paying workers a fair wage.

Tens of thousands of British youngsters are turned down every year for medical training to save money. Instead we poach staff from poor countries who need their staff more than we do. Poor people around the world are denied medical treatment because we stole their staff, our own kids are denied a chance of a career. What an absolute disgrace this country is.

The NHS employs 1.5 million people in England, 181, 000 in Scotland, 100, 000 in Wales, and around 70, 000 in Northern Ireland. Thus, the total number is approximately 1.85 million. In 2023, 1.2 million people immigrated to the UK.
So let's not make out like the NHS has significantly benefited from immigration when it can be concluded that the majority of people who immigrate to the UK do not work for the NHS. If that many people continue coming to the UK, the money they generate for the UK economy will not be enough to support the organisation as we don't have the infrastructure to treat such a significant increase of people.

High skill immigration is different from illegals and low skilled workers, yet high skilled workers only account for 250k not the full 2m that have come in 2yrs we need massive reform of immigration.

Whoever is coming next year, is not here now. How will we be worse off than we are now, if they don’t come? I don’t accept the perpetual growth position of economists. It’s a myth which rich people invented relatively recently.
