guys off topic but am i the a-hole for being upset my mom didn’t get anything for me for my birthday? we are a high income family with no recent financial situations. my mom claims that it would have been too much to first have a party (with just my family members and it didn’t have to be anything big i just wanted my cousins and parents and siblings to be in one house for my birthday) reluctantly my mom agreed to this after she had denied it several times. on my birthday, my sister picked me up from school and we went to the movies. my sister payed for it herself and my brother payed for snacks. the movie was amazing but i came home to see my mom and a bunch of her friends all gathered in my house. at first i was excited to see a bunch of gifts and a cake. i come inside the house and i see a led sign on the counter. it said, “happy birthday Stephanie!” she’s my moms friend who was at the party. when everyone left i smiled at my mom and she didnt acknowledge me. i asked, “what else is going on tonight” thinking there would be a surprise of some sort. like family movies, games, swimming or really anything. she shrugged and said “not much.” i wasn’t completely shocked but i just thought my mom would at least say happy birthday or something. she claimed that she couldn’t plan anything because she was too stressed with a my play rehearsals. however that doesn’t even involve her. i’m not saying that she is qualified to get me a present i’m just hurt that my boyfriends mom remembered and cared more about my birthday than my own mother.
