I think it's fair to say that humanity has had some pretty bad days... From huge nuclear disasters to the starting dates of worldwide wars. You name it, and the world has probably had a day like that in the past.

That made us wonder what the worst days in the history of mankind actually are. In this comparison video we show the days that are possibly the worst days ever.

It's surprising that the deadliest day in history is in 1556. There were much less humans at that time. It means that even the bombing of Hiroshima or some of the worst natural disasters that occured during the last century killed a relatively small amount of people (despite being above 100K) compared to that earthquake, because you also have to add all the natural deaths that occured all around the world the same day, which should be higher in the 20th century than in the 16th century. It would have been interesting to give the number of deaths for this earthquake.

For the people saying “the Russia and Ukraine war started on this person’s birthday, ” the Russo-Ukrainian War has been going on for many years now, I think since a few years after Ukraine split from the Soviet Union.

Also, I’m surprised the Beruit explosion wasn’t in here. But I guess there have been many terrible things since COVID.

Just two corrections:

18 May 1927 was the date of the deadliest ATTACK on a school by a lone perpetrator. It was a bombing, not a shooting. The deadliest US school shooting happened on 16 April 2007 when a gunman fatally shot 27 students and five professors at VTU before taking his own life. As a little trivia fact, I live very close to where it happened and am a direct descendant of a survivor.

10 November 2019 is an incorrect date regardless of how you interpret it. The very first reported case was 17 November 2019, while it was not considered a major public safety concern until 30 January 2020 where it was recognized as a pandemic until 5 May 2023. However, WHO first declared it a pandemic on 11 March 2020 and that's when a lot of the world's nations began slowly locking everything down. If you live in the United States, COVID-19 lockdowns were not official until 13 March. WHO still considers COVID-19 ongoing as of October 2024 but it hasn't been a huge public concern since probably late 2021 or early 2022 if I had to say.

I feel like it's stupid to feel depressed just because of COVID-19. In my opinion, 2020 - 2022 were great years and I loved it. I did kind of get unhappy by lockdown so much, but that didn't affect my rating of 2020, etc.

FACT: In the Indian Ocean Tsunami, a train carrying hundreds of passengers in Sri Lanka was struck. More than 1700 passengers were crushed or drowned. The engine and two coaches of the train involved were rebuilt over 4 years and now haul regular passengers services and tourist/excursions. It is well known as the worlds deadliest rail disaster.
