I have been nerding out over Ameca for going on 2 years now, following her development. She's amazing!

well, I think that there is a lot more to becoming sentient than just interacting with humans through speech. I think developing the other senses would be a big deal, such as touch and smell. These, along with taste bring so much information with them. For example, if Amica had the sense of smell and touch, and was brought to an elephant and allowed to move around, touching and sensing it, what would Amica make of it? Or a puppy or kitten? It's all very focused on us, but we're much more than just human interaction. I would be interested in seeing AI that is segregated, becoming sentient and learning from that.

Yeah but you still can't know if these behaviors were programmed into her or if she's learning them. The real test is to see if you can repeat the action but teach her to not do what she would have done.

And a major difference is how much time and money is put into a a single Tesla bot vs Ameca. 50 thousand (eventually down to 10k-20k) vs 150 thousand. Ameca is 3x more expensive at the moment and might’ve taken millions to just engineer build originally.
