In this video we'll be adding 2 types of enemies to our platformer game. We'll be going through this tutorial at a fairly quick pace because you should have watched our other tutorials before watching this video. These tutorials are designed to teach you how to make a game in GDevelop, a no-code, open-source, free, and easy game engine.

Be sure to check out the first video in the series if you haven't seen it yet. 👍

Great tutorial so far.

However, these need to be updated to the latest version of GDevelop. On "Rectangular Movement" the settings you adjusted don't exist. For any of those confused like I was:

You need to set "Width" to 0 and "Height" to whatever value you want.
Then you need to set "Horizontal Edge Duration" to 0 and "Vertical Edge Duration" to whatever value you want.

Or do a re-shoot on these tutorials and/or slow the pace down a bit. These are far too fast for complete beginners.

I started using G Develop about a week ago and I love how simple and reasonable this system is. Everything works how I would expect it to, it's easy to change and add sprites and animations, the templates are amazing and make things a lot easier.

May I request the next part of this series be made soon, as I am working on my own platformer and I love following along with this series.

I found this video confusing with changing the dead variable and then adding the test for it later. It feels like the test should be front and centre but perhaps I just think differently than most people. Chalk it up to my ADHD mind. :D Thanks for these tutorials. It's a lot easier to see how it works by actually doing the coding although I have to keep pausing to put the code down.

Didn't set up the "dead" event in the first video, oh we did the event where it respawned after falling off the platform, but it didn't use the 'dead' object variable

After the intro this is my first tutorial making real game .... i would really appreciate slower tempo, showing more of how to do stuff :) Last 5 minutes video took me over an hour to complete :D

This video is in a playlist continuing on from the Platformer 1 video however it skips a few steps. You say that in the previous tutorial we created a boolean value "dead" but this wasn't actually taught in the previous video. I know that there is videos explaining it elsewhere but it is a little confusing because the first platformer tutorial doesn't set up a "death event" involving a boolean as you claim in this one.

Awesome video as always! I would love to see some more interesting AI enemies and the process of path finding ect associated with it. Even something like a PAC Man with a AI that searches or such to help expand off Platformers and the like.

Or does anyone know anyone doing tutorials like this?

I'm confused on how I create the "dead" variable?

Thanks, great video, look forward to more. Someone mentioned in Discord having difficulty "growing" the area size? Someone mentioned wanting to update the example due to restricted boundaries or something to this effect. Maybe you could comment in the video on it?

Hey! Love this, Everything went great. But when i stand still being below the fly, i dont die.. What should i do?

I didn't see anything for making a boolean variable in the last video. I tried making sense of it but my character isn't "respawning" as it should be when the fly is touching him without jumping. Is there something I could be missing out on? When my character stays still and the fly hits him, the fly dies instead of the player dying.

what about Rectangular Movement when I downloaded it it`s not like which you have.
I don`t have Horizontal or Vertical Distance, I have Clockwise and Horizontal Edge ...etc

Would you create a "terraria" in gdevelop? With building system, multiplayer and items?

This is really great. Is it possible to animate HUD elements in Gdevelop? I'd love to have the Score or whatever collectible counter fade in or move into the camera frame when collected, then disappear to off camera after (a la Donkey Kong Country or any other platformer that does this).
