Hanebuth comes from a middle-class family, the father was a vocational school director, the mother a chief secretary. As an apprentice carpenter, Hanebuth decided to pursue a career in the red light.[3] From 1983 he worked in the Steintorviertel, Hanover's red-light district.[4] He also fought in four professional fights[5] between 1991 and 1996 as a heavyweight boxer. In 1995 he became a member of the Bones MC, the largest German motorcycle club at the time. He became president of the Hanover chapter and in 1999 played a key role in affiliating the Bones with the international motorcycle and rocker club Hells Angels.[4] As President of the Hells Angels Charters Hanover, he was one of the most influential members of the German section. In the "peace negotiations" with the competing biker club Bandidos at Pentecost 2010, he was the chief negotiator of the Hells Angels.[6][7][8] According to Ulrich Detrois, who left the Hells Angels[9], Hanebuth tried to create the position of "Head of Germany" for himself, but failed.[10]
