The main audience of this video is people who just looked up ‘How to connect a switch to a tv without a dock’ so I don’t think you needed to explain why you would want to do it

My new nintendo switch won't play on the tv. Called nintendo and they put me on hold for over an hour then hung up on ne. Twice!! All I want to do is see this work on the tv. Thank for the video now I know I have options. Nintendo shouldn't treat customers like that. Shame on you. This was a Christmas gift for my son and we can't even play together on the tv. Mr. Noire thank you brother!!!!

Thank you! Just like you said - the dock is fine for setting it up on one dedicated tv and leaving it there, but if I want to take my switch home for the holidays and share my game with my little cousins and neiphs, I don't want to pack a delicate dock in my suitcase. It could get broken or stolen, and I want to save as much suitcase space as possible for bringign home those christmas presents and home baked goodies. I really appreciate this vid showing me how to play my switch on anyone's tv while traveling this holiday season.

5:28 Just unplug the hdmi cable from the dock and then you can play the Switch on the stand while charging without the TV screen.

NOTE 1 : Please note only adapters that list the Switch as a compatible device will work. There are many USB-C adapters out there that DO NOT support the Nintendo Switch. Be careful when buying.

NOTE 2 : You literally only need the adapter & an HDMI cable for this to work. Everything else I showed is just a way to make it even easier / better to use, especially for a long-term setup. So take it with a grain of salt.

NOTE 3 : This video seems to be getting a lot of attention so feel I should mention - Nintendo recently released a statement against using 3rd party docks, which this adapter/method more or less falls under, claiming that they can cause issues or even "brick" your Switch.

While I personally have had 0 issues with the set up I showed in this video, and I have been using it now for 1year+ almost every day, just be aware of this and do some research if you are interested in third party docks or adapters for the Switch.

Their statement came out long after this video was published which is why it is not mentioned in the video itself.

**ALSO** Samsung TVs, for whatever reason, seem to have the most issues when it comes to these adapters and this method in general. I personally have tested it on RCA, Vizio, and Toshiba with 0 issues whatsoever (The TVs I own) but for some reason people with Samsung TVs seem to be having a lot of problems with it.

reason #4: you're like my mother who bought a Switch that didn't come with a dock (gotta love EB Games).

If you don't mind a bit of tinkering you can also order a small, empty dock shell and place the original dock chip in it. It's pretty quick and easy to do and not much bigger than this adapter. That's what I did, and it's much safer than 3rd party docks.

Wow its 2020 and you need like 4 cables at once. Why cant it just synch to the tv over Wifi or somehting?

My son appreciates your video. Now he can play his switch again after the dock just died out of nowhere.

I plug in the ac cord and the light blinks once and then nothing.

Now he’s discovered he can only watch YouTube and not hear it. I can’t with this guy smh

Thanks man. I was trying to do it with just a USB c to HDMI cable. FYI it works with my phone. (Cable only) Good for travel.

When I first saw the switch reveal, I thought there would already be a cable included for this very purpose.
And my reason for wanting to go dockless is to help keep the console from getting hot
