Yep, there are "fan approved" and "fan rated" fan boxes. Knowing their weight capacities is the important part.

Cost effective compared to the metal fan box on a bracket?

Iv tried them, if the screws if not perfectly Aligned, they are prone to going in crooked and being a pain. When you're in a tight space, high areas, or holding a fixture. They are ok for the budget job

Where can I find this exact size screw? I bought a new fan to hang and lost the old screws

Do all boxes have a disclaimer on the inside to let you know what kind of rating it is and if it will handle a fan or not? Or do we literally have to go into the attic (if accessible) and see if the bracket is heavy duty enough to handle a fan??? Wanna install fans in my Kids' rooms, but would like to do it without having to go through all the trouble of trying to find out if the bracket in place is rated as such.

Yeah... I'm not an electrician, but damnit I try. My dining room used to be a living room, and when they remodeled, they hung the chandelier from the box that the living room light was. It was way off center from the table (12' table) hanging over the far end. This annoyed the shit out of me, so i moved it over about 4 feet. I used a remod box, which did say it could support the weight, but I think about it all the time and have constant thoughts of it ripping out of the ceiling when I'm not home. I had upgraded to a very large and heavy fixture and I wasn't absolutely perfect when cutting the hole and having a tight fit. Its not horrible, but I wish now I had used a fan box between the joists. No part of me wants to redo it, but I wish it wasn't a constant point of concern. Idk honestly why I chose to use a remod box other than I had become a fan of them and didn't even consider anything else once I looked up their load rating. That's why im not a professional, total lack of insight and experience to make judgement on

Wouldn't you have to ground that box now?

Carlon Carlon? Is that like Agar Agar powder? Or Johnson & Johnson?

I don't trust that. I'll keep using my metal fan bar hangers

Do you use any ABB gear when doing new construction. Worked for GE Supply for 25 years and hate to see what happened to GE. Start drawing a pension from GE soon and somewhat worried about it's longevity. May actually sell it off to the company if they offer that option again ..

I cant stand Carlon boxes. The device screw holes either strip out or the screw snaps off. Not to mention they twist when you try to nail them up and always end up protruding from the drywall.

Those type of boxes with hangers are wobbly... In my opinion I would'nt trust these. I vastly prefer to use those half inch thick circular boxes that mount directly to a joist. They can't take much wire. If I'm converting a light fixture box to a fan rated box, I will run a wire from the old light fixture box to the new fan rated box mounted on the joist. Then I just cover the old box for the light fixture with a cover plate.

I would only trust these"fan" rated boxes on light fixtures. 😂

My old contractor boss- Oh its too expensive to use that, use the other one thats cheaper **proceeds to put a 52" fan (132cm) in**

and no I dont work for him anymore as I got tired of him saying that he's not in it for the money but to help people, only to complain about no money.

“Fan rated” what a joke. A money grab is all it is.
