LYRICS

There’s no light

Down and out as darkness falls
So much more than he can take
Shakes the cage in deep withdrawals
Come on, give the boy a break

Oh, he will break
He’s no mistake

Chase that light, lean on me
Face that fight, lean on me
Catch your fall, lean on me
End it all, lean on me
Struggle on, cause without darkness
Without darkness, there’s no light

Lost his way through wicked streets
But he is someone’s little boy
All the love a young one needs
Thoughtless elders have destroyed

It is destroyed
He’s just a boy

Chase that light, lean on me
Face that fight, lean on me
Catch your fall, lean on me
End it all, lean on me
Struggle on, cause without darkness
Without darkness, there’s no light

One step down
Block it all from view
One step down
With apathy, look straight through
One step down
Turn so you won’t see
One step down
He’s just like you and me

Chase that light, lean on me
Face that fight, lean on me
Catch your fall, lean on me
End it all, lean on me
Struggle on, cause without darkness
Without darkness, there’s no light

There’s no light

Written by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, & Kirk Hammett

The riff, the chorus line, the solo and the breakdown after the solo. What a badass song!

0:51 simplistic, yet totally awesome drum fill. This is why lars is so underrated

This is BY FAR the most Underrated song on the Album. Everytime I hear that riff, I freak TF out. It's one of the BEST Riffs James has ever wrote. I Love him so much ❤

That riff. The whole song. The whole album. The message, "chase that light, face that fight, catch the fall, struggle on 'cause without darkness, there's no light!" I cried tears of joy when I listened to it for the first time.

Heavy guitar riffs. Drum solos like only Lars can perform. Hetfield’s melodic but gravelly voice as practiced as it has ever been. And an inspirational tone and message that only Metallica could deliver. Masterful.

The vocals have been the most melodic they’ve ever been on this album

I can't believe James is hitting that Chorus note at his age...I hope it translates over to his live performances. Its like a Kill em All throwback style with modern recording quality.

"One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious."
Dr. Carl Jung

This entire album is like the theme music to the famous psychologist Carl Jung's books! He's probably the most scariest psychologist of all time. Metallica has gone to the depths of the Collective Unconscious and brought out the Archetypal stories that reflect our challenges of the psyche!
