I know I still need the Death Magnetic album from Metallica, but it has a pretty hefty copyright written all over it :/

I just listened to this song for the first time ever.... oh my god

Marty Friedman's complex solo in this song is one of his most classic and beloved ones, and it seems to have been an important one for himself too at the time. In a 2002 interview, he recalled: "When I finished the solo to this one, Mustaine came into the studio, listened to it down once, turned around and without saying a word, shook my hand. It was at that moment that I felt like I was truly the guitarist for this band."

I just found out that Marty Friedman risked never playing guitar again to record this album. Apparently, he had "dead" tendons in his fret arm and his doctor told him to play the least amount as possible. He was told not to practice, to play only when the recording light was on and to get the hell out of there right after. Absolute legend.

It warms my heart to see so much of the younger generation appreciating this masterpiece. Been listening since the 90s, it still hits today.

Underappreciated part of Megadeth sound: Ellefson hammering that bass. Their mixing has always respected the bass and it makes their compositions fuller and heavier. Even when it isn't ellefson on bass, they amp it up and make sure it plays its role as backbone to every song.

I think it's funny that after years of worshipping metallica as a teen, this is objectively the best song among the two bands, and he was with them for a time writing songs for them.
