Maternity Allowance in the UK is a financial benefit provided to expectant mothers who do not qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) from their employer. This government-funded allowance is designed to offer support during maternity leave. Eligible individuals, including self-employed women and those with irregular work histories, can receive Maternity Allowance to help cover living expenses during pregnancy and childbirth. The amount of the allowance and the duration of support may vary based on individual circumstances, but it serves as a crucial form of financial assistance for many new mothers in the United Kingdom.

Hi Sir,
I started my employment on march after 12 weeks of pregnancy, ( 3 months)
So I worked for my employer for only 18 weeks( 4and half months), so they told me that, they can pay statutory maternity pay for me, as I worked less period ( 18 weeks)
So can I apply for maternity allowance?
Or is this maternity allowance is only eligible for one who is PR?
Can I apply for that?
Am I eligible for that?

Hello, I have worked for my previous employer 6 months from 30may 2023-Nov 2023. Also work for different employers one week each between 19march-29march 2024 and 24th April- 30April 2024. Do I qualify for Maternity allowance because the 6 months covers 66weeks test period. I had to stop working because immediately those employers realized I was far gone 20-23 weeks pregnant, they advised they are looking for long term individuals and not someone going on maternity leave within a short period of working with them, because both roles were 12months contract. My due date is 02/09/2024. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi I worked in the UK for 26 weeks and I worked in UK and paid all the NI & Tax. I quit my job post 3 months of pregnancy due to health issues so I am not eligible for SMP and then post 3 months I travelled to India. Unfortunately due to health conditions I am unable to return to UK although I have my Mat B1 form before 20 weeks from mid wife. The claim said I need to produce Mat B1 form post 20 weeks. I called International DWP center and they stated I can get letter from a doc I am in India but they will have to make a decision if they will pay me or not as I am in India which is a temporary move upto post 3 months of birth. I am not sure if this will lead to my claim being rejected? I dont know if I should have mentioned that I am in India as I claimed the maternity from UK only. Please can you suggest what I should do? Thanks in advance!
