Is Focused Fury actually better than Bait and Switch on Cataclysmic?

Recently some people have been saying that Focused Fury on Cataclysmic is better for damage and DPS than Bait and Switch. In this video we'll look at whether this is true or not, and why.

While this is true, typically boss dps phases in Destiny don't last long enough for the focused fury DPS to catch up to the bait and switch burst damage

This was excellent. Thanks for taking the time to do up the charts. That's professional work. A line battalion's missing an OPSO somewhere.

10/10 video your stuff is great!

When it comes to total damage output my main arguments that you mentioned were, witherhoard only applies for 1 person (2 if you stick 1 on the ground ), Arbalest charge time slows the rotation down, and so does Izi. And at the end of the rotation for FF, you can easily still run these other weapons and start dealing damage, just like you do in the B&S rotation.

For DPS, I 100% forgot to include the rotation numbers in my video of other weapons. I figured these would be negligible because of the charge time and reload time of Arbalest and Izi respectively. Based on your final DPS plot it looks like that was correct.

I haven't seen the holster method you mentioned, but bypassing reloads on IZI would EASILY make B&S way better, but I also figure that most players might not optimize damage further than just running weapons. I am assuming this only allows the first Honed Edge x4 shot.

Once again fantastic video!

If you want the extra shots, you can still reload and shoot 2 unbuffed shots with bait and switch, making it the same 9/12, just with a bigger buff and the hot swapping.

Very useful and was actually sat on the crafting screen trying to pick which perk I want

U can also use witherhoard and focus fury

also important to remember that u can dump a honed edge shot with ff allowing u to recover ~2/3 of the izanagi damage you would have dealt with the holster method and then u don’t have to spend four energy on sniper holster

I had a 4th times and FF and the problem is that there's no DPS phase long enough to truly get the benefit of FF.

The nice thing about BaS is it's a better burst damage weapon and the vast majority of the bosses in this game benefit from more damage right now, not later.

When I switched from my FF to BaS, my overall DPS usually went up when we'd wipe.

But overall, the difference between the two is more or less inconsequential.

I appreciate the work you put into this video. I would really appreciate if you could slow it down a bit so I don't have to re-watch three times to understand each point

I remember a time long ago, when Bungie set out their goal that the best weapons, perks, and methods would not be clear and obvious, but rather constantly up for debate, with multiple options fit to be the best. I think they achieved their goal lol

Def useful I literally just got the last pattern for my cataclysmic and I usually run Arby in most dps settings so I’ll be crafting mine with focused fury

Thanks for clearing things..
One request, if possible, test combined DPS of Lucky Pants with a 180 (preferably Officer Revolver) and Linear (Cata/Taipan)..

I am very glad you decided to remake this video and point out the facts that weren't factored in. Bait and switch and Focused Fury both have pro's and cons. From a logical stand point, I think bait and switch is a better option for short dmg phases where all 10 shots can be applied.

And Focused Fury is the better option for long dmg phases because of it's consistency. I think for total dmg, bait n switch wins because of it's higher dmg buff plus additional secondary weapon dmg. But in terms of actual DPS, FF wins because there isn't as much switching and reloading involved especially if it's a Taipan.

But I could be wrong. That's just how I see it.

I'm likely not going make the swap personally, as i see focus furry as the inflexible perk, not bait and switch. As long as you use the main weapons you pair it with, its burst dps across a single mag is stronger by quite a bit. And if you're attempting to go for maximum total damage (Which only really matters if you're in a boss where ammo from aeosn is less abundant), you can do a similar reload trick with bait and switch and reload every 8 shots instead of 10, reloading with the 2 shots you got back from the last 4th times proc to go from 37 total shots to 43, 6 more shots with the higher damage booster. Also at the end of the day, buff and debuff are multiplicative in nature, so the more damage you do per shot will ripple out in effect when looking at a prolonged period of time, likely widening the gap even more.
I def haven't run all the tests myself for all the data, so its never conclusive till then, but there's nothing in me that tells me that focus furry will ever overtake bait and switch in damage or dps any time soon (Maybe outside of hyper niech dps time frames, maybe).
I think in situations where dps phases will take 50-100% of your ammo, but you have ways to replenish that ammo before starting again, nothing about the current dps meta changes, if you often use close too 100% of your ammo and don't have as easy of a time refreshing your ammo, then simply reloading 2 shots early each time with bait and switch for the extra shots will more than make up the difference in focus furry's total damage, even at the hit to your dps, since you can always go harder or slower on damage at a hairs breath, on the fly, rather than locking into the one method

so you are saying that since BaS can use witherhoard for extra damage so it's gonna be better for dps but wouldn't FF also be able to use witherhoard to increase dps as well? not really fair to compare it like this.
