US Army Height and Weight Standards CHANGE 2023 | No More H/W with a 540 ACFT!

Great news directly from the SMA! Still a nascent decision, but as it stands, the plan in the near future (possibly within 2023) will be to allow all Soldiers who score 540 or more points on the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) to forego the typical height and weight testing requirement completely. I think this is an excellent compromise to the long-lasting h/w dilemma the force has been facing for so many years. Even more reason to crush the ACFT!

as a bigger soldier I love this. I have always been a bigger guy. I have literally taken the apft ran a 1400 min 2 mil run and have a overall of score of 260 and then do h/w and be told I'm fat and out of shape.

I currently have a 526 so just gotta work a little more and won't have to worry about this anymore.

As a 5 foot 3 female who likes to lift but can run this is awesome! I’ve only struggled with sit ups, acft is wonderful 559 score. So glad the Army is finally revising the H&W standards

I did a presentation on this exact topic as one of my ALC assignments years ago. Glad to see things in motion. Keep spreading the good word. RLTW!

This is a good change. I am an Army retiree. I remember scoring 290 on the old APFT and failing tape and it caused career issues. I learned how to cheat the tape test to get an extra inch on your neck.

Back in the APFT, I had a guy that passed with flying colors but failed the tape test. We hated to give a counciling statement and hold up promotion to an amazing E4. He was the medic you wanted any day of the week, but that tape test...damn

A 19 1/3 neck always helped me with taping.

I like this too because those bigger soldiers who kill the ACFT (not me) also will often times go to extreme lengths to pass tape. It's a step towards helping prevent horrible weight loss practices

I started writing training programs for my soldier (NG) sometime last year and he’s been training his ass off has lost about 30 pounds squaring away his diet he ran a 1541 2 mile compared to his 18 or 19 minute 2 mile that he used to run And overall got actually really good score on is a ACFT but before BLC he was still worried about height and weight trying to starve himself wrapping his waist and other dumb shit worrying about height and weight this year I believe I can get him to be able to easily get a 540 and never have to worry about that again

This definitely makes me happy. I’ve been within 5 lbs of my standard for months and the more I try to workout and loose weight the more muscle I’m gaining and then my weight goes back up again. I leave for basic on Tuesday the 17th and I’m so nervous about my weight and passing the mini physical

Definitely agree that there needs to be a common ground. I absolutely hate (if you know me you know) the HT/WT standards but i also think there needs to be some sort of margin for those who are heavy-not due to muscle mass. 540 is very attainable, my NCOs and I sit around the 570-590’s on any given day and every one us gets taped. Glad the army is moving forward. Good video sir.

Can you do a in depth break down of Height/Weight/Tape process. So people can actually see the process. The randoms tricks you have to know.

I have been telling these people this for a decade. My thing was if your passing then your in shape, your body size doesn't matter. I have passed all 20 pt test I have been given but have almost got kicked out due me having a small neck. I had a 6 pack and everything and yet I still failed by a little bit. I watched a person that was bigger than me and clearly out of shape pass tape because he has a big neck. After that I have pretty much tried everything you said from fasting to hydroxycut to dangerous neck workouts. These things can affect your mental big time. My mental was already affected by me failing tape after getting a 280 on the pt test and then they told me you fail another one your getting kicked out and you have a month to retest(old test max is 300). I guess they finally listened but ik it is too late for a lot of us.

I am reenlisting and I was worried about this as well. I carry a decent weight and I'm a little older 38. I never considered myself overweight until coming back into the service, I have dropped 10lbs but still considered overweight. I don't know what my ACFT score would be but I can deadlift 260ish, maybe more if i trained, and can run about a 14:00 2 mile if I tried hard. Still training and trying to lose a little more weight but we shall see after boot camp.

Just found your channel. You're awesome!! I'm working with a personal trainer 5 days a week in addition to taking spin and HIIT classes at Crunch Gym in Louisville, KY. I'm currently stationed at Fort Knox and have my next ACFT in June 2023 and my next height and weight is in May 2023. I broke my leg with a complicated trimelleoular fracture a few years ago and as a 52 year old, I have to work really hard to stay in shape and pass height and weight. I just sent a link to your utube channel to my trainer for ideas on things we can do in addition to what we are doing to help me. Thanks so much for your videos and advice!!

Should have been like this before the ACFT if you got a 270 with a APFT. Glad to see the Army waking up and making sense. I remember getting 300s and still having to be taped, made no sense at all.
