Recommendation to evacuate area of Western Ave in Knoxville could extend into Friday

The Knoxville Fire Department has shared that Western Avenue between Texas Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue is closed due to the discovery of "suspected explosive materials" and the public is strongly urged to evacuate the area.

Tomorrow night? It’s insane it had yet to be confirmed if it is explosive material and it’s also strange that they have not even mentioned an investigation to see how it got there. If it’s on the property then there should be some camera footage on the drop off of the container. Js it’s weird 🤷🏻‍♀️ regardless if it’s explosive or not how did it get there? And will will us the public get a definite answer??

This is a failure on behalf of whoever issued this emergency alert. “Evacuate area Mynderse and Western.” No explanation. No links to more information. Nothing.

What does it say about how they’re handling this that someone who got the alert had to look it up on the internet or wait for the news to come on to find out why? Not only that, but to find out if you’re in the evacuation zone? The incompetence is astounding.
Even if it’s an “abundance of caution” there should always be a concise explanation with an emergency alert. But apparently that’s not common sense after all.

I have a family member who works at CMC Knoxville, they were also evacuated! I see people commenting how didn’t get there it’s a recycling yard and it’s in a steel box!! Stuff doesn’t always get checked to see if it’s empty when it come in, in big truck loads and gets dumped!!! The biggest issue being that this box is close to a lot of other stuff that is highly flammable hence the large evacuation zone!!

Explosive could be one of several types of material.Bombs dont just smoke. It is harmless unless it has a detinator.

The cops clearly do not know how dynamite works or the damage radius. Unless its next to other explosive material you would see a radius of 100ft so anything more than 200ft is purely lack of knowledge.
