This episode traumatized me so much that I was scared straight from ever committing anything like this. Goes to show the positive influence television can have. The secondhand shame you feel for Bart this episode burns right through you

On the DVD commentary one of the writers said that he once came up with that idea when he was a kid and wanted something.

Try-N-Save is a brilliant name for a discount department store. It's a great commentary on patrons who go to Walmart or Target to save money but spend so much on impulse buys that they haven't really saved much at all.

It goes to show you that Bart may be a trouble maker and is a bit insensitive from time to time but he is a good kid at heart, knows when he goes far and is caring. This kind of writing is lost in the new simpsons episodes.

I hate the way Jimbo and Nelson got away with shoplifting when yet they were more obvious Brodka must have noticed the shape of the American football in Jimbo's hat and the flashy coat hidden under Nelson's rags.

In reality once you leave with an item you can take it. Most stores won’t care because it’s petty theft. They try to build a case against you once you exceed $1k stolen accumulative.

Watching this as a kid made me so nervous about the prospect of getting caught and thrown in jail. Watching this as an adult makes me so angry that there are kids out there so fry-brained enough to steal such silly and pointless merchandise like this and literally risk their behinds for a very stiff sentence in the slammer.

The Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, and Sonic the Hedgehog actually convinced Bart to steal the game, but Lee Carvallo tried to convince Bart NOT to steal the game. Looks like Lee got outnumbered!

When Harry Shearer played Donkey Kong I always thought it was Will Ryan. His voice sounded like Willie the Giant from Mickey's Christmas Carol.

This is why the Simpsons is great. Every one of the other video game titles in the display case is funny as hell (except operation rescue). Someone thought of those other titles and someone animated them in as visual gags. The scene switches too fast to notice without freeze framing on the youtube playback, which did not exist 30 years ago and no one had any idea that it would exist 30 years in the future. Lee Carvallo's putting challenge was not even featured in that visual gag scene (unless it was the box obscured by Bart). Based on how funny the Lee Carvallo scenes are (and they are possibly some of the funniest scenes in the episode) I can only imagine what the original writers would have done with any of the above titles, especially SimReich. Is that like a Nazi version of SimCity? That would be both funny and disturbing at the same time.
