This Item Only Exists In Gen 2 #pokemon

The Berserk Gene was a pretty bad held item introduced in generation 2 of Pokemon [Gold and Silver]. But it didn't survive the transition to generation 3 [Ruby and Sapphire], so let's explore one possible reason for that.

also you only get 1 outside of cerulean cave in the water, because wild Mewtwo also hold it, but it gets consumed instantly, meaning you cant get more than 1, also only 1 Mewtwo lmaoo

I think a free swords dance as a consumable for own tempo Pokemon would be reasonably balanced on singles. Maybe too broken for vgc tho.

I think the Berserk Gene could be pretty balanced in modern games. The pool of mons that could get mileage out the item are limited. The best users of the Berserk Gene would be Purugly, Tinkaton, and Galarian Slowbro. Even then if you opt for Own Tempo there's the trade off of losing out on the benefits of their other abilities such as Defiant, Mold Breaker, and Regenerator respectively. Also, if there's mons like Gliscor who could use it's ability to abuse Toxic for healing, then mons using their ability for a free Swords Dance doesn't seem to ridiculous. To further balance it out, it could be a single use item. These mons would susceptible to phasing moves and Unaware users with stat resetting moves.

Okay but the only Own Tempo users that would actually be a bit threatening with a free attack boosts weren't added until Gen 9 with Tinkaton and Maushold.

No other Own Tempo Pokemon is scary with the boost.

Easy solution to Own Tempo - just make the item not activate in that instance. Have the item confuse first, then apply the +2.

Yea but Galar Darmanitan can stack Gorilla Tactics and Choice Band, Dracovish can use Strong Jaw Fishious Rend and Pokémon like Miradon and Calyrex Shadow practically have 2 abilities so I think they could bring this item back and it would be fine

Own Tempo + Berserk Gene is effectively twice the power of post-nerf Intrepid Sword; Once per battle, when the user switches in, they gain a +2 to Attack. It’s basically using an item slot to replace your ability with something broken.

With the power creep we’ve seen since Gen 2 they could honestly bring this item back. The only Own Tempo Pokemon I see it being potentially OP on is Tinkaton, so maybe they make it increase attack by one stage instead of two, but either way it would be fun to see how competitive players maneuver around it.
