Hello, I'm Spaniard. Spanish hymn existed before Franco. It was years before him. When Franco arrived he changed a few lyrics of the hymn and made it official for the country. But those lyrics changes were not political or anything, just minor changes.
We could have used the old hymn but people don't want to get linked to the dictatorship that happened for like 40 years, so for "respect" people don't sing the hymn. I find it stupid, honestly.

I'm Spanish, and I gotta say, we have no lyrics (except for that one meme version) due to them being forgotten and badly perceived by the public. Tbh I sometimes even forget we have an anthem. I think despacito is better known than our representative melody. Weird stuff
