As a former healthcare worker, working with people in their own homes was an enlightening experience. The patients were palliative but many were living years past what was expected. They were happier in their own homes, they made me feel like a part of the family after a while. I'm in Canada and we have had this type of care for many years and it works. Older people don't want their families doing this work so it opened up job opportunities for people like me who found myself going back to school to learn a new job skill at age 52. It saves our Provincial healthcare system millions of dollars every year.

50 years ago, I learned after going from 128 lbs. to 87 lbs. in just over 30 days, that I was pregnant, and I had two large cysts the size of grapefruits on my ovaries. I was still having my periods, so I was completely unaware of the pregnancy, but I felt like I was dying, in fact I was. I was rushed to emergency room after clasping on my living room floor. A D&C was performed, but they could not remove the cysts for fear that they would erupt. Two days later, I made the decision to have my tubes tied after having a long conversation with two doctors. Later, I learned the cysts were gone and I've never had another one appear. That D&C procedure saved my life, and I'm alive today at 69.
