First of all, Rolex itself doesn't sell watches to consumers so they wouldn't have an official list of any kind. They sell to dealers (ADs) at their pleasure, and the dealers are independent business entities who can choose to run their business their own way.

Given what I said about ADs above, it's certainly possible that some of them have a true wait list that they faithfully execute on chronologically. This is in general not true though.

ADs need to make money, and much like DeBeers, Rolex will never sell an AD only the “in" models with high demand. So if your AD wants a Submariner and a few steel Daytonas, they're going to have to buy a bunch of precious metals 31 mm Date justs, two-tone Yacht Masters, a few Cellini's and so on. And these are the watches dealers end up show casing at their stores because people buy them very seldomly.

I remember when I first brought a Rolex (for my wife), AD was willing to sell it below MSRP. They also try to sell me a Daytona with discount so we can "wear Rolex together". Like everything else, things come in cycle, and the upside of the cycle is over.

I own two Rolexes – submariner – Explorer. I bought them many years ago and I’ve kept them in excellent condition. I bought them at a time when you could go into a Rolex store and walk out with the Rolex you wanted. The last time I went into a Rolex store, the only watches I saw were the expensive gold watches with diamond numerals, two tone gold watches, with what I considered unattractive dials. I did not want any of them even if I could’ve afforded the price. I firmly believe that the Rolex boutiques are pushing the expensive watches, assuming that if you can’t get the submariner or explorer, you would buy a different Rolex, the more expensive one I had one owner tell me that frequent customers are able to get the stainless steel brands that others have to wait years on a list.
Rolex produces over 1 million watches a year and they’ve just started working on a new facility which at some point will double their production. I understand that Rolex management is looking that way to change the way Rolexes are sold. Apparently they want to cut the number of retailers and have more high-level boutiques.

Easy solution to the Rolex waiting list. Buy an Omega. Better movement, better styling, 2/3 the price of Rolex, and available with no waiting lists, no games and no dealer attitude.

Hmm idk about regions outside of Asia and Australia, but in our region its near impossible to walk into an AD and get any Rolex let alone the "undesired models" or the models that were listed. But you are right about the AD allocations, I've been "allocated" a 40MM Day-date.

Ad were selling to grey marketers and rolex was setting ad quotas very very high with rolex determining what they would ship ads did the same and sold to grey marketers

Rolex should sell the watches directly to consumers. It is sucking that AD are sell all their rolexes to gray market. When I went to AD asking about the Rolexes that I wanted to buy the seller pretty doesn’t give a shit.

Saw somewhere that a guy went to the AD and left his contact information for the waitlist. He returned 10 minutes after leaving to check if his contact information is in the rubbish bin.

Make it happen. Have some enthusiasm about the reference and a little charm. Took me 20 months to get a Sprite. 1st Rolex. It is great. Brought it in to show them the scratches on the clasp. Then put my name in for the titanium Yachtmaster. I will succeed.

You can buy any of these watches anytime. They are fake scarcity which makes you think they are rare.

Its pretty dumb to have lists... I dont wait I have the money but I would never deal with a business that operates this way.

every rolex in the DC area has a 2 year waiting list, all of them. Mine are all 1980s bought new in Baltimore...
