Nothing sends shivers up a US Navy Sailor’s spine like “This is not a Drill.”

"This is not a drill" still sends shivers up my spine.
I got a phone call on the base crash phone when working the ER once. A KC-135 had crashed. This is not a drill.
Was recalled once to respond to a C-130 crash full of troops in a remote area, once for a HH-53 crash full of marines. Those were not drills.
Responded to a C-130 troop transport crash, multiple terrorist attacks and dozens of other "This is not a drill" incidents.

"This is not a drill" brings all the drills and reality surfacing fast in your throat.

Interesting to have so many bad comments about a man not being able to serve. I have family that died in the WWII and serving now. Everyman serves where he can. The Duke best served us in the promotion of service. The loss of any service men is deviating to our families. Every service man is family to all of us.

If a few Navy officers were as on the ball as the Captain, , 12/7/41 might be remembered differently.

The guy saying "General Quarters" is an actual Boatswain crew member on the Saint Paul. I was onboard at the time.

We heard this on an LST in the Med in 1977. A Soviet cruiser came into our group headed for Display Determination 77. Talk about getting your attention

I had family aboard that ship during filming

After Pearl Harbor, many COs decided to omit using the General Quarters alarm during drills & only sounded it for real action to avoid confusion between a drill & actual impending combat.
The difference saved lots of time manning GQ stations.

Why they shoot this movie in black and white?

I would love to see the United States Navy sailors aboard a World War II ship without computers
