Mjölner

Today we introduce ”MJÖLNER”, the second single from our upcoming album entitled Seden. Available on all major streaming services!
Mjölner captures the very essence of the band's musical roots. With strong influences from traditional Swedish folk music, Hindarfjäll blends in their melodic harmonies, powerful choirs, and cinematic soundscapes to narratively depict the religious shift in ancient Scandinavia. Mjölner, which not only symbolizes Thor's strength, also served for a period as a cultural symbol of resistance and discontent against the new emerging belief. During that time it was called ”Hinn Nýi Siðr” (The New Way) or ”Hinn Kristini Siðr” (The Christian Way), today known as Christianity.
Nils adds:
Mjölner addresses a philosophy and a way of life that fundamentally changed among the ancients. The song reflects upon subjects such as the arrival of Christianity, how the cult of Odin took over roles as priests and bishops to retain their power, the vandalism of temples and cult images, the spread of euhemeristic tales and how all of these factors affected the common people’s lives. On an official and public level, the Old Norse ”religion” vanished in the 12th century, but in the rural areas it survived far into modern times through folklore, traditions and customs. The core of the song, like the majority of songs on the album, actually deals with the weight of an old polytheistic mindset where humanity's synergy with nature and all its Divinities was essential for everything’s well-being.
