Welcome to SolvedIn6: Free practice problems for the Professional Engineering Exam! Each question is styled after those created by the NCEES, and is usually solved in under 6 minutes, which is the average time you will have to solve each question on the Professional Engineering Exam.
Today's problem covers water hardness and bar charts. These could also be topics on the Environmental Engineering exam. The reference manual will not be of much help for this question, so make sure you remember how to solve this type of question before going into the exam. A few basic things to remember:
Carbon Dioxide does not contribute to hardness, but it does consume lime.
Carbonate hardness is the lower of 2 numbers - the total hardness, or the alkalinity.
Total Hardness is the sum of calcium and magnesium.
Alkalinity is the calcium and magnesium that overlaps with bicarbonate.
