Hey John, thank you for making a video about SUNSOFT is Back! Retro Game Selection! Just wanted to correct something that you said in the video. The compilation was developed (and published) by Red Art Games. Nami Tentou’s engine was used as the basis but we've added features (like rewind for example) and created the interface.

Blaster Master and Batman are easily on my childhood top 10 NES list. Love me some Sunsoft. Can't wait to give these a try. Thank you for sharing this news of this collection! 😀

This feels more like stuff that should probably be on Switch Online. Sunsoft has re-released some of these before. Sunsoft Memorial Selection vol. 3 had 53 Stations of the Tokaido and Wing of Madoola, and neither really require english. They did 6 volumes on the PS1 that included games like Journey to Silius, Gimmick!, Ufouria, Ikki, Atlantis no Nazo, Super Arabian, Super Spy Hunter, etc.

That last game you played looks like a precursor to Blaster Master, it even shares sound effects.

Sunsoft is iconic in the retro game scene so its cool to see more from them!

Finally, a CRT/Scanline filter that looks pretty good. There's other stuff I like too, but usually, the TV type filters look too overdone IMO and break the immersion. This one seems about right.

Not fireworks, but one of the greatest phone games i ever played was called "weapons throwing rpg." Anime styled and seriously great for a free game. I guess there's something satisfying about defeating enemies with projectiled

For US releases, Sunsoft’s NES games had the absolute best music- both in overall composition and sound!

We all know the Famicom games that got those awesome extra sound chips, but Sunsoft games worked some black magic with those tunes.

Gremlins 2 and Batman are top tier soundtracks and punch above their weight.

If you like Sunsoft there’s compilation cartridges for the Evercade that got a decent amount of games for about 20$

Kinda impressed they have a fully translated text adventure included among the other games for just 10 bucks, but I will definitely get it for that price. Even if it's mostly for the sake of aupporting retro re-releases, since Wings of Madoola seems to be the one game here that's closest to my idea of fun (The firework thrower game seems functional more than fun and the adventure game could be good but also feels like it could be VERY obtuse).

I played 53 Stations of the Tokaido last year, because it's featured in one of my favorite Game Center CX episodes. It took awhile to learn the game, but eventually I got really good at the game. Two key points are learning where the coins are, and learning the timing when the enemies spawn. So killing enemies the second they spawn will get you far. The speed at which you're moving affects the momentum of your fireworks; it takes awhile to get the hang of it. Collecting 10 coins will spawn a warp zone that either puts you 3 or 6 levels ahead. The game isn't 52 levels BTW, it's 21. The 2nd to last level is pretty brutal. At first I beat the game with warps, but that felt cheap so I got good enough to complete the game without warping. At 2 points in the game you need 2 coins to spawn a stepping stone to cross the water, and if you don't have coins you'll have to die to collect more.

Love these old games. Hate the rewind feature in these remakes though.
