Our oceans are heating up, and fast.
Sea temperatures in 2019 were the highest on record.
Oceans are the clearest measure of climate change, since they absorb 90 per cent of the world's heat.
Warmer seas mean more intense storms, droughts, floods and wildfires.
The study is the latest warning on the climate crisis facing our planet.
However, greenhouse gas emissions are still at record levels.
Are we starting to tune out to the constant stream of bad news on the climate? If so, how should we change the conversation?

Presenter: Martine Dennis

Guests:
Anto Mohsin - Assistant Professor at Northwestern University in Qatar who researches energy and the environment.

Heike Vesper - Director of Marine Programmes at the World Wildlife Fund

Cornelia Meyer - Energy economist and CEO of Meyer Resources.

"Why aren't the biggest polluters listening?" PROFIT. Shareholders want their wallets to get larger more than they care about the climate and the earth.

The amount of dislikes just proves how many selfish people there are from most developed countries !

When you realize the Earth is going to die within your lifetime and people in the comment section are still arguing it's a conspiracy. 😰😬😬

Hardly warnings at this point. This is effects. But yes, of course we're going to ignore them.

We're already doomed. At the rate the only thing that gives us the slightest hope is a groundbreaking technology that can extract carbon directly from the air. Even then effects have already been felt with melted glaciers etc. It's already a forgone conclusion. Just enjoy the rest of living.

Well some of the world are ignoring it but it's one of those things where everyone needs to be on board otherwise eventually its game over.

Stop using cars, stop flying airplanes, stop building infrastructure and start planting trees. Dry your clothes in air instead of using machines

Did you know that flue gas is usually 1200 ° C hot? Flue gas is emitted when burning coal. Air has almost the same thermal conductivity as flue gas since both largely consist of nitrogen. The exhaust gases/flue gas must be let out.

This leads to great efficiency losses.

Exhaust gases would have to be kept inside to increase efficiency. That would not work with coal. So you need something else to heat the gas.

For example, you can use electric heating elements made from silicon carbide. They easily heat the air to 1200 ° C and produce no exhaust gases, which is why the air can be kept inside. The electrical heating elements made of silicon carbide use electricity to generate the heat.

For example, a coal-fired power plant produces 100 megawatts of electricity and requires 1200 ° C, which is generated when coal is burned. What if you generate the 1200 ° C electrically and have a much higher efficiency? The heating elements consume far less than 100 megawatts.

I would like to hear your opinion on this.

I feel like I'm a passenger in a car and the driver just wont stop drinking, every time I ask him to stop he just plops the bottle in a paper bag or switches from vodka to gin. As his driving gets more dangerous he starts using drugs really feel comfortable in this car anymore. We ask the governments for something to be done and every solution makes things worse or makes no difference and then they start fracking and drilling in the melting arctic.

We need to highlight the critical impact animal agriculture have on green houses gases, deforestation, water and grains waste. Plant-based diet can tackle climate change, research about this and choose a diet rich in vegetable protein. IPPC latest report from United Nations urges to make this switch. “Grazing livestock is responsible for 54 percent of Australia’s land use. Urban usage is less than 0.18 percent. Eight percent is conservation, ” the Australian Government, Department of Agriculture and Water Resources.
