Date: 3/15/22.

Camera: Sony Handycam FDR-AX53.

Locomotive consist:
SRY 381 - EMD SD38AC - Blue - Raised Letter K5LA
SRY 382 - EMD SD38-2 - Blue

This crossing is located on the SRY Fraser Valley Subdivision.

Bell sequence: Bell rings through whole activation.

Horn setting: Horn zone.

Gated signal on the left: A Progress Rail base, a Siemens gate mechanism with RECO LED gate lights and 2 pairs of WCH 12x24" lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs.

Gated signal on the right: A WCH base, a Siemens gate mechanism with RECO LED gate lights, 2 pairs of WCH 12x24" lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs and a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell.

On March 15, 2022, I decided to try out getting the Westbound Valley Turn out in Langley. I decided to come over to this crossing to catch it. Initially, I was notified that the crossing signals wouldn't work and the crossing would be flagged. Later on, a signal maintainer came by and turned on the power to this crossing. Shorty after, the train came by with 381 and 382 for power, but with only three hoppers. That's because it cut the rest of its train at 62 Avenue so it can switch the customer just slightly west of this crossing without blocking any crossings.

This crossing is rather standard for this section of the Fraser Valley Sub. The Township of Langley has been giving a lot of funding to all the railroads in its area (especially SRY) to upgrade crossings for improved safety. This crossing specifically was upgraded from crossbucks in 2021. Because the hydro poles follow the line with many low wires, a bunch of crossings have hinged gates. It certainly makes them stand out despite them being modern installs.

When I saw the thumbnail I was like the gate is broken and then I remembered it was part of the gate

It’s amazing how you can compress a normally long gate down into something no higher than the pole it’s mounted on. And how all you need to make it work is a hinge, a string, and a pulley. Impressive stuff!

Great video and neat crossing! Love those hinged gates!

SRY has put a lot of effort into upgrading these crossings. Up until eight or so years ago, everything from 72 Ave/ 240 St through to Clayburn was just crossbucks and stop signs.

Grace, style and elegance. Those were the most neatly closing hinged gates I have seen so far (to be honest, they look fairly new, so not such a big surprise there). Pity it slams so badly when it opens again ;) That's a 6 for the dismount ;) . Sometimes wish we had these in The Netherlands, but on the other hand... too much risk of getting wrecked by chavs.

I just have a question... i know its very cool but... why??? theres no point. you could of just built a normal crossing gate like its pointless.
