Ballure Set Figure 1 - Brooks Academy

First demonstration of Ballure Set during the Willie Clancy Summer School 2018. Figure 1 is danced to polkas.

This set is based on the half-set that was danced regularly until the late 1970s by John Friel (John Pat Donie) and his wife, Margaret, and friends in their kitchen in Ballure on the Fanad Peninsula in Co. Donegal. This version of the dance is for a full set and was revived in 2018 by Mary Friel, John’s niece, with the help of fellow members of Brooks Academy, Dublin. The dance bears a strong resemblance to Payne’s First Set of Quadrilles.
