Part 6 of the VMware vSphere Performance Monitoring Series.
This video will cover how to monitor your Network resources. We will discuss features such as the different Drivers that can be used in a Virtual Machine, such as the E1000, E1000e, VMXNET3 and more.
We will discuss various technologies such as TSO (TCP Segment offloading), Jumbo Frames and SplitRX mode just to name a few.

We will wrap it up with a demo on what counters can help us determine if we have a network issue, what VM's are consuming bandwidth and what options we have to help improve network performance..

Enjoy and Leave comments.

Hi Steven. I used iperf to test network performance in our NSX environment from an Alpine linux kernel and managed to get line rate 25Gbps through the network. Our NSX Edge Nodes also forwarded this traffic at the line rate. Our MTU had to be 8800 to get this. In Windows we could only get 12Gbps with higher MTU, suggesting the linux kernel is more performant. Is the 10Gbps VXNET3 limitation still valid as our testing in ESX 8.0.1 gave superior performance. Cheers
