A Message To My Future Self
Показать описание
Filmed in the Netherlands during my adventures in the month of November 2022.
The poem depicts a conversation between two people as they see themselves through time. The imagery moves between the present, future, and past until lastly, it locks itself brutally to the present moment.
A big thank you to my friend Anna for allowing me to film her and drink some of her coffee.

🔰Dear Future by illneas
I wonder if our future selves are thinking about us
Do you think they ever think about this moment, as we are thinking of them?
In the cinema of our memories, the chaotic bits and pieces start to align sometimes
Like a drumbeat
Like streetlights on an empty highway
Do you ever think about the people we are becoming
Do you think we will be happy?
Did we live our dreams or did we compromise?
Maybe we weren't that stubborn
and wasted some of our time
Rewatching our favorite movie before Christmas
And taking walks despite our deadlines
I hope we didn't take our life too seriously
--
Sometimes we forget how delicate beings we are
Sometimes we forget that time goes by so fast
I wish we at least talk to each other in the future
It's weird how we exist in multiple timelines
It's weird how we dream, how we create and judge ourselves so harshly
The balance of this world is so fickle
Our bodies and minds are so fragile
Maybe aiming for something is pointless
Maybe our reasoning is flawed just a tiny bit to keep us going despite the uncertainty
It's weird how we wish we could see into the future the same way that we see into the past
--
You, recalling your mother crying,
your brother, holding your hand
It's strange how our minds work,
how death changes us so fast
You used to be a curious kid, with raindrops in your blue eyes
You grew up with bravery and observed pain scratch your skin
Sometimes this pain still makes your voice crack
Sometimes music can't contain this burden
And I'm aware that it's impossible to see it now
But I can sense the brittle lenses of memory all over us
I know that on the other side are our future selves
And all they can see is the joy of the world tracing your smile.
The same way I do now
--
In which corner of this world will we end up?
Do you think it's nice there?
Maybe I'm naive but I don't care
because I'm smiling now
And if I have the strength to be happy now,
I might be happy in the future
