Here are common mistakes LEGO builders including me make, when designing lego cars.

Love this video! That road with the incline for the cars to go down is so sick!

Could you hide the wrong car in the City?

Everything is on point in this video, well done! The Audi MOC looks great!
I also have to notice that sometimes 6 studs are not enough for advanced detalization, so I build 7 studs wide cars.

The pieces created by lego are actually quite fun to be honest

Tip: look at “how to draw cars” books or online tutorials. It’ll help with spacing between front and back wheels, 2 or 3 box designs and offer some inspiration for rear, front and side detail work. 👌

I'll always prefer 6 studs wide, 8 studs are simply too big in my opinion, you can put a lot of detail yes, but the cars will be simply too big for minifigs I think, 6 studs is the best balance between scale and detail

Personally disagree on the 4 wide and preformed chassis comments, I've made some of my favorite car mocs by constricting myself to those chassis and small size, it forced me to think of other elements more creatively. The preformed chassis also allow minifigs to sit lower than what is possible with plates so that full figs can fit in without the car scraping the ground.

Very entertaining video! Cars seem pretty hard even at their generally small scale. The proportions were always tricky for me to get right.

These tips are good tips but also things like proportions and shaping is some of the most important factors of a car. For that car to look like that car. And using more complex and different pieces can offer more detail and shaping. Adding onto this using different tires besides the city wheels for sport cars like the speed champion ones would offer a more low profile and sleek look to the model. Also using different fenders to give a car a more modern or classic look can add a lot.

I have decided to take the plunge and try my hand at city building, thanks for the inspiration and information. I enjoy your channel immensely.

I've just begun my city building journey, and I am struggling to justify 6-wide at the moment. The scale looks odd in context of what few roads and buildings I have. 4-wide allows me to add density of units and flow of movement at eye level without drowning out detail of surrounding scenes.

I must admit, the "minimalist-cutesy" aesthetic that 4-wide lends itself to has grown on me. The lower brick count of my 4-wides is also helpful as I slowly accumulate more into my collection.

At least those are my justifications.

Bro level 1 in the thumbnail looking better then any car I could build in Lego from imagination

as a creator who makes LEGO cars, I made these mistakes much, so thanks for touching base on it!

I will never build a car that cannot fit a whole minifigure. That is a personal limitation that I have set on myself because I am a weirdo that is more concerned with building a functional world then with details alone. Everything else in this video is really solid advice. If I may add another point, not really a technique but more so a mindset, but when looking for inspiration for building a Lego car, only rarely look at other people's cars. When looking for inspiration, look at totally unrelated builds like modern space ships or natural builds like animals or large human figures as those builds tend to have a larger focus on interesting curves and connections, then apply that knowledge to your car builds. I actually got inspired to finish a build of a Ferrari Dino 206 GT by looking at somebody's build of a pufferfish. Inspiration for individual techniques rarely come from pouring over people's interpretations of similar builds.
