I feel the best detail was the book the mother was reading to our protagonist. It states"Happy Ending, " even though there isn't one. Sometimes in life, it isn't a happy ending we all experience.

I'm thinking that this character lost his mother then felt alone, because of this he felt alone at school so someone got him a dog to help him feel better. One day he went to school and met a new kid there and they became good friends and the kid got less lonely. One day the kid and his friend was having fun when something happen and the kids friend got hurt and needed to go to the hospital. After the kids friend gets back the kids friend blamed his injury on the kid and they no longer where friends.
