If Steve Alford doesn't win the game against NC, Dakich wouldnt have been remembered for holding Jordan to 13 pts.

I didn’t have to listen to the show to answer this question. He’s an average coach who has been doing it long enough that we know his ceiling. Steve also has an average to poor track record in the tournament. Coach Miller’s win percentage is about the same, but with far fewer years coaching. I don’t think we know what Archie’s ceiling is yet.

Alford did not even show up for the IU BB banquet after his senior year.

Alford has had six Division One coaching jobs and hasn't done a lot with any of them.

He's not the IU coach because of the Pierre Pierce incident when he was coaching Iowa ...
Alford publicly took sides against a rape victim and also kept Pierce on the roster as charges were pending ...
Knight would have immediately kicked him off the team ... and as IU fan since the 70s, I can do without Alford ...

He will coach Indiana when they sign 3 all-americans and he knows they can win the NCAA.

He may be a decent Mid Major coach, but he’s not a coach that will win a national championship anywhere.

He proved that after getting fired from UCLA and he couldn’t win at Iowa.

He is best coaching at somewhere like Dayton, Wichita State, or Bowling Green.

He would never win at somewhere like Indiana University.

I live in Indianapolis btw.

Maybe because he hasn’t had any success at the major college programs where he has coached. He should have stayed at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State). He has left every other program worse than he found it.

Great part of IU lore, but has not been impressive as a D1 coach.
