How to make shims

Site-made shims.

If I’m installing a bunch of interior doors or even a single exterior, I buy shims. But when I only need a few, like for setting deck guard posts, I made them as I need them.

Swing the saw to 4 degrees, cut across the board. Swing back to zero, adjust the board, repeat.

On demand shims.

Just set the angle at half of what you want (in this case 2 degrees) and flip the board over after each cut rather then resetting the saw each time… then you can cut a bucket of them in no time

This is brilliant, can old offcuts of mdf window boards be used?

Don’t shims need to go with the grain or tb split?
