Aphanius “mento” (Elbistan) pool (16-09-2018)

By the moment of this filming, the water temperature it was 28ºC, the pH 8.1 and the hardness I was 340 ppm.
The pool dimensions are 2 m width x 2 m length x 30 cm deep.
It’s my simplest set-up but adequate to mimic as possible the natural biotopes described for this species at several sources on the Internet, with the traditional (and imperative) filamentous algae (as it displays a noticeable vegetarian tendency) to create some broken lines of sight, not perceptible on this time of the year as the main algal cluster is floating after the August heat wave. I have also adopt for no subtract at all, in order clean the bottom if necessary.
Unfortunately this was not the best conceivable time of the year to spot and film dark males with blue spots on the group, as well as most of the adults are still too suspicious to approach the camera or my submersed hand and are out of sight on this underwater images.
By contrast, later on the film you can see the youngsters of the year nibbling my submersed hand with no fear at all.
