Its been a few years since both of these cameras came out so Kenny took them out for a test to see if the C500 MK II and the C70 can still hold their own as A & B cams! Will they pass the relevance test? I guess you'll have to watch to find out..

TIme code is crazy good.
I use the tentacle track E and Tentacle sync E on my C70, R5C + R3... it just works...

This is a fantastic topic of conversation that is immediately relevant to my work right now as I have due to a long story, decided to go all in on Canon & have everything streamlined in the same ecosystem for maximum compatibility.

I champion the EOS C700 FF but as we all know, that camera is NOT for everything. It's best for Hollywood, huge budget, major studio productions. When I need to do last minute, on the fly, run & gun, solo operator, live events with no room for errors, I find myself in a serious problem then. That is why the perfect pair to the C700 FF is the C500 mark ii. It's literally the same exact camera as the C700 FF, just smaller. They have the same exact sensor between them. So, the C500 mark ii is perfect as the C700 FF's B-Camera, back up camera or specialized camera for when shooting in tight spaces such as a car or when doing an outer car rig or putting a camera on a drone.

The perfect B-camera for the original C700 is the C300 mark ii.

The way I am moving my company forward is to have my C700 FF for any serious movie work & then use the C500 mark ii as the B-cam for those & then use the C70 for little videography jobs where I have to do solo operator run & gun. Finally, for photoshoots, I will use the EOS-1D X mark iii & if I just so happen to want or need to catch a little video while I am at it, I have the built in 5.5k recording ability in that camera to do so.

As for the lenses, I will be matching everything with the CN-E primes & CN-E flex zooms. When I am in situations that require a servo zoom, I will use the Canon CN-E servos & or compact servos. as additional & final flex/bonus, I will invest in the regular CN-E zooms for the range that the Flex zooms don't cover & the Sumire primes will be on standby if I ever need/want/have a reason to switch back my cameras to pl mount. The flex zooms, because they are FLEXIBLE, allow you to switch them between S35 & FF as well as switch between PL & EF mount. In conclusion, These tools as described will allow me to stay ready so I don't have to get ready.

awesome video mate. I absolutelly love my c500mk2 and every time you say that it's kind of future proof I have to agree. It's going to be an awesome camera for many more years to come. As you also mentioned, the only thing I would really want just for giggles is 120fps 4k. Other than that I'm completely fine with everything else.

dude, since I picked up the C70 I find myself reaching for my C70 vs. my C500...most of my gigs are dual camera shoots but whenever I get those rare single camera, it's the c70 for me. the other day I got a single camera that needed SDI and I took the C70 with my ninja V+ with SDI device attached. I fingered since I always have my ninja V+ on my cage anyways, why not...I did have the C500 in the van though, just in case....😂

Although it doesn’t have the cinema tools, cinema body, or built in NDs available on the c500 mkII … I would venture to say the Canon R3 has a bit better sensor for video. It also shoots in full internal 12-bit Canon RAW up to 6K 60p. Better in low light. I believe the c500 goes down to 10-bit RAW at 60fps. I don’t think the R3 replaces it, but could be a good supplement.
