You have to pay into it for 40 quarters (10 years worth) to qualify for SS. Its not a gift, its your money not The governments.

I’ve been paying into Social Security and Medicare since I was 14 years old. I’m scheduled to retire in two years. I want the benefits that I paid into for decades!

It's nothing to debate about. Give people their money. They paid into the system, and it's owed to them!

If the crooked washington crooks would keep their greedy fingers out of the social security funds, we would have lots of money to help retirees get their well earned and deserved checks.

The elderly and disabled are still waiting for Congress to pass a bill to increase Social Security amounts to something livable!

I agree with this. People have a right to have what they worked for and paid into.

If you pay into Social Security, you should be entitled to it, no matter what occupation you worked.

I’m a widow that depends on SS. It’s my money, the government needs to keep their fingers off it. Don’t mess with my benefits.

Am 58 retiring next year but the thought of retirement gives me weakness. My apologies to everyone who have retired and filing social security during this time after putting in all those years of work just to lose everything to a problem you never imagined to happen. It’s so difficult for people who are retired and have no savings or loved ones to fall back on.

I worked briefly as a public school teacher and was told I wouldn't be paying Social Security taxes because of the way the Teachers Unions had set up their retirement plan. If your entire career was based on public employment and you and your employer didn't pay Social Security taxes, you shouldn't be eligible for SS at retirement...but if you have paid in to SS you should be eligible for SS payment based upon your earnings like any other person.

They need to give the elderly free health care like those on SSI. They also need to raise the amount because NOBODY can live on 1, 200 a month. And why penalize people for being married by taking half of the wife's SS away from her while her husband lives? These people built and took care of this country . Treat them right.

If you paid into SS you should be eligible for the benefits. If you didn't pay you should get nada.
This report is somewhat confusing as to what exactly the bill is allowing

If they did not contribute to SS they cannot draw SS!

Good luck getting it through the Senate. Going to need all the luck you can get.

I paid in 25 years in to SS but I only get 60% because I receive the pension from another job. Just because I worked 2 jobs the government has no right to cut my benefits.
