Jason, as a retired IT Executive, I used to tell my employees, “If you don’t mess up every day you aren’t doing anything!” Most of what we do is trial and error. We just don’t like to confess it! Keep up the trial and error and learn from the mistakes.

Screwing up is the best way to learn, I put that time "spent" down to "training" lol.
The only thing is that age makes me more forgetful. lol.
Cheers for sharing Jason.🍻🤓

Jason, I understand your pain. I have spent countless hours this week getting 2 HP servers running XCP-NG, a TrueNAS mini to work with an APC UPS and NUT to shutdown gracefully when the power goes out. I still have not gotten it yet but I’m getting close.

Thank you for all the hard work that you put into your videos and build-a-pi software, the effort doesn’t go unnoticed.

Jason, I wish I had a nickel for every time I have made such dumb mistakes! Your honesty and transparency about the struggles we all must go through is much appreciated.

I too am an IT professional and I totally appreciate the struggles you spare us from. In our web app development I tell my team to always push the envelope and experiment... but only in the sandbox environment and make DARN sure you document every step along the way so you can re-produce the right sequences when you find them. Great video and thanks for all you do. Merry Christmas!

I once spent 4 hours trouble shooting a computer I built that wasn't posting only to find I hadn't seated the RAM completely... I feel your pain.

That proves it. You are one of us. When someone ask me for computer help, I always start by asking if it’s plugged in.

I recorded a video where I was making a simple dipole. I bought a 1:1 balun to make the center connection easier and to add some RF choking. I didn't realize (or didn't even know it was a thing) it was a voltage balun not a current balun. So I could not get the dipole even close resonant no matter how much i trimed or added, I couldn't even see the curve. I recorded the whole thing. I just need to edit the video yet (maybe this winter). I'm leaving the whole frustration in the video and lesson's learned.

Jason, you gave away our secret sauce. ;-) Now, everyone knows that we don't know everything cold when we film a how-to video. We appreciate all the hours that you put into your videos behind the scenes. Glad to hear you solved your gateway problem.

The genius of our existence is that occasionally the genius goes out for coffee. Great ‘Gotcha’ video, Jason. 73

We all go through these type of issue. Very simple you need to plug the cable into the radio. Thank you for sharing.

Good job on the script to automatically reboot the Pi. That's good programming technique to build a reliable system.

The first rule of electrical engineering: It works better if you plug it in. The contrapositive is also true. If you don't want it to work, don't plug it in. 😀

When you do all of the hard work and make it easy for us, I may get another Pi and put up a WinLink gateway. I look forward to your next video. Thanks for all you do, including the head banging so we can avoid that Excedrin headache.

It is nice to know that I am not the only one that does things like this. I program, reprogrammed man times and couldn't get DMR to work on my Anytone 878UVPlus. I was about to send it back and pay them to program. Then at the next meeting the club talked about replacing the bad computer on the DMR repeater. My radio started working 2 weeks later. Things like this keep us thinking so our brains don't get lazy. Well that sounds good anyway. Thank You Very Much for all the information you give out!

I feel your pain. I once tried to fix a radio that I had turned off.

Talking about dumb mistakes, I spent time debugging why js8call could transmit but not receive well. I tried various audi settings on Buster to try a fix this and after some time, I noticed that DNR on the rig was operating. With a slap on the forehead and switching off of the DNR, everything was working fine.

Hey man this stuff happens. That's why we are radio amateurs not radio professionals. We all have struggled with a new project that we are playing with
